Help Us Choose Our New Name!
We’ve grown beyond Bath and Brunswick, and we want your input—vote in our public poll to help choose our new name!
Why We’re Updating Our Name
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bath/Brunswick has grown! While our name highlights Bath and Brunswick, we’ve always served youth and families throughout all of Sagadahoc County—and we’ve recently expanded our mentoring programs into Androscoggin County as well. As our reach has grown, our name no longer reflects the full community we serve.
To guide this change, we’re inviting the public to share their thoughts via a poll with three proposed new names. Your input will help us choose a name that best represents who we are, where we work, and our commitment to supporting young people across our region.
Potential Name Options
1. BBBS of Central & Coastal Maine
BBBS of Central & Coastal Maine reflects both the geographic reach of our programs and the diversity of the communities we serve.
"Central" represents the inland towns and cities of Androscoggin County, while "Coastal" reflects our service to Maine's coastal communities, including Brunswick, Harpswell, and communities throughout Sagadahoc County. Together, the name clearly communicates that our work spans both inland and coastal Maine without listing individual towns or counties.
"Central & Coastal" speaks to reach and balance: meeting youth where they are, whether inland or along the coast, and ensuring that every child has access to a caring, consistent mentor. It represents movement, connection, and a commitment to growing stronger together.
1. BBBS of Midcoast & Central Maine
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Midcoast & Central Maine reflects both the communities we serve and the shared future we are building together.
"Midcoast & Central Maine" is inclusive and accurate, ensuring families, partners, and funders can immediately understand where we work without listing individual towns or counties. It also provides flexibility as our programs grow and evolve, allowing us to serve more youth without needing to redefine our identity.
Most importantly, the name reflects our belief that every child deserves access to a caring, consistent mentor, regardless of where they live. While our communities may differ in geography, they are united by a shared commitment to supporting young people and strengthening Maine's future.
1. BBBS of Coastal Rivers Maine
BBBS of Coastal Rivers Maine reflects both the geography we serve and the connections we build.
Our service area includes Maine’s coastal communities—such as Brunswick and Harpswell—as well as towns throughout Sagadahoc and Androscoggin counties, which are shaped and connected by major river systems like the Androscoggin and Kennebec. The name honors the natural features that link our communities rather than divide them.
Just as rivers connect inland towns to the coast, mentorship connects young people to opportunity, stability, and a stronger future. "Coastal Rivers Maine" represents movement, growth, and lasting impact—values that mirror Big Brothers Big Sisters' mission.
